Hawea Green Waste & Hawea Recycling Centre

Domain Road, Lake Hawea

  • The Green Waste Centre is provided by the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) for the use of Hawea residents (i.e., people who live at Hawea Flat, Maungawera, John Creek, Lake Hawea and immediate surrounds).
  • It is operated by the Hawea Community Association Inc. (HCA) along with substantial input from local volunteers.
  • Income generated by the Centre is used by HCA to support Hawea District community projects (e.g., playgrounds, lakeside beautification, provision of public barbecues & toilets etc), facilities (e.g., Community Centre, Library, Hawea Flat School swimming pool etc) and activities (e.g., New Zealand Day activities, ANZAC Dawn Service etc).

  • The Centre is open every Saturday afternoon between 1.00 & 3.00pm.
  • On long weekends it is open between 1.00 & 3.00pm on additional days.  These will be advertised locally (i.e., in the Upper Clutha Messenger, and on the Community Noticeboard at Sailz, Lake Hawea store).
  • For use at other times you can obtain a key to the Green Waste Centre at Sailz (Lake Hawea store). You will be required to record three details in the Green Waste notebook before being given a key: (1), name, (2), contact phone number, & (3), how much you have paid.
